Well, it's OK. But it's hard to introduce much tension in a novel when you know the broad scope of the historical outcomes. It also seems to be re-telling an already chronicled bit of Pern's story from a different viewpoint, which is also a bit disappointing.

Pretty good fan-fic, in essence.

Next up: Spellbound by Larry Correia. The second in his Hard Magic series. The most unbelievable thing in it is that history proceeds pretty much along the same lines as in our world, despite the (well-known) existence of many people with genuine magic powers (including healing) since the mid 1800s.

But it's fun all the same.
