I agree and all these problems have been theoretically solved by Onyx Boox. All that is needed is good hardware, fast refresh mode, and Ultra HD screens.
I have been reading on my i86 like a tablet. At present, it is the best eReader.
A) I switch on the fast refresh mode. B) Adjust the contrast and fonts . I choose heavier fonts and make them bold, so that text becomes readable. The text quality in fast refresh mode cannot be like regular HD screens but it is fairly readable. I get page ghosting every 25-30 pages which i can remove by pressing one hardware key for 2seconds.
The Final Result is that : I am able to flip pages extremely fast and i can open dictionary and multitask at the speed of a tablet. No other modern eReaders even remotely compare with i86 once it is properly set up
Compared with i86, there are shortcomings in all 3 New Large Screen eReaders being launched :
Onyx N96 Dual Touch - Screen Resolution is low. No Frontlight. Text becomes readable in fast refresh mode if screen resolution is high
Onyx N96ML - No Capacitive touch screen and screen resolution is low
Boox Max - Screen Resolution is good and Fast refresh mode will work smoothly. If only it had dual touch, it would have been the best. Normal tasks like page flipping and accessing dictionary are more convenient if done using hands
