First there are some books that don't do badly with Time Travel. Usually the Travel is just a fraction of the story.

That said, there are inherently terrific limits on the idea of Time Travel that I have never seen any author handle the details of well.

The simplest and easiest idea to work with is a limited one way trip to the future. Anything beyond that doesn't bear scrutiny well.
