Yesterday I was between books and undecided whether to read a new book I recently bought or re-read Maugham's "Cakes and Ale", which I read probably 15 years ago. I have very little memory of it but I do remember thinking at the time it was the best of the Maugham books I've read, and I've read and loved a bunch of them.

Anyway thinking about this thread helped me decide and I began reading "Cakes and Ale" and it's just like a new book. I thought I had some memory of what it was about but now, about 15% of the way into it there's nothing at all familiar about it. I just might get to experience it for the first time all over again. I hope it's as good as the earlier me remembers it being.

Anyway, thanks for pushing me into this. It's fun so far!
