Not 100% sure as I don't have one, but everything I've seen is that it's not really locked down at all. It's literally a Samsung tablet with a Nook skin/launcher built in instead of Samsung's Touchwiz as far as I can tell. The only compelling reason I can see to get the Nook version would be if I could get it for substantially less than the regular one. What happens when it becomes an "old" model? Does the built in Nook stuff no longer get updated while the regular Google Play Nook app continues to receive updates? I don't know the answers to that but don't have tons of confidence in B&N keeping up with 'old' models as they go off sale.




Google Play doesn't have the Amazon app store (or any other third-party app stores). It must be sideloaded to non-Amazon devices and can in this case.
My bad. I missed one little word in that sentence. I overlooked the app. I was thinking Amazon store.
