Easy Street by award-nominated frequent Writer's Digest contributor Elizabeth Sims (
SYKM,
Wikipedia) is the 4th in her Lillian Byrd Crime series of humorous amateur sleuth mystery novels, this installment starring the apparently now unemployed former reporter and freelance writer who finds herself doing a favour for a retired cop friend and winding up on the trail of finding out how a body ended up in the wall of the house she was renovating, as so often happens, and winding up going faux-undercover in an assortment of fake disguises of varying believability, as you do, free courtesy of the author herself, who is e-printing it from its 2005 hardcover edition originally out from LGBT specialty publisher Alyson Books (
Wikipedia).
We've previously received
#1 & the Lambda Literary Award-winning
#2 in the series as freebies, and once again, the author gives an extensive Q&A about the writing of this novel in the editorial reviews section on the product page, if you're interested.
Currently free (and DRM-free) @
Amazon (available to Canadians & in the
UK and pretty much everywhere else worldwide, since this is being done via the KDP Select exclusive-or-else program).
And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because it's always nice to get a little more diversity in the offerings we receive, and I actually rather like zany madcap sleuth stuff, most of the time. Also, bonus points for extra author's notes.
Enjoy!
Description
Lillian Byrd's battered Chevrolet Caprice is convulsing through the last of its death throes; her pet rabbit, Todd, ails; and as usual she's single--and flat broke. For a few extra bucks she signs on to help an old friend, retired police detective Erma Porrocks, renovate her house, but of course nothing ever goes smoothly in the life of Lillian Byrd.
The end of her first day on the job yields a partially demolished wall, a mysterious stash of cash, and a fresh corpse. And Lillian's attentions are diverted by the appearance of a drop-dead gorgeous neighbor. In trying to figure out the twisted facts, Lillian uncovers greed, deception, and love, not necessarily in that order!
