Out of curiosity. Isn't the KindleOS based upon Linux, using some sort of own filesystem (maybe compareable to the one that initramfs is using?). Isn't there a way to unpack the *.bin file by any means, hack around some settings inside there and repack to a new *.bin so it can be used to update the Kindle?

I am just speculating here since I never cared for Jailbreaking my Kindle. The recent *lighter font* messup released by Amazon caught me with the idea of Jailbreaking the Kindle as soon as a new JB is available. Only to avoid future *surprises* by Amazon.
