It doesn't seem to be one that many people comment on but I am sure there are quite a few who have read it and could have some recommendations. Can you list some books that you like (this genre or others) and what you are looking for if you have anything more specific than just the "war fiction"? Any specific time frame? WW1, 2, Vietnam, etc.?

I enjoyed most of the WEB Griffin books dealing with the military and set around WW2 and later (I am really out of date on them though, since I read them nearly 20 years ago and haven't picked one up for a long time.) And I have read a few other books set in other wars but not a lot of what I would call "war fiction" or "military fiction".

I also really enjoyed Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising about a theoretical WW3 in the 1980s.

Edit: You might also check out the espionage recommendations in the sticky there is some overlap. Also there is a "Historic Battle Fiction" thread that might have some recommendations for you. It might just be a matter of what it is being called rather than lack of information.
