I definately agree with you. The link within the /. article is referring back to the original autor that again is referring back to one of my earlier comments here on MobileRead.
To summarize this up. I keep following a bunch of german speaking news sites and read from other german speaking commenters, that they have the same issues with the thinner fonts. Let me add the references

For normal lecture like beletristic you can go with a bigger font but for technical books, that contain tables with numbers, coding specific books and mathematical formulas you rely on getting as much content on a page as possible. But with these thing lines, things end up getting complicated.
I blindly updated the kindle because until this, I was quite satisfied with every update that came from amazon. My personal lessons learned here is, adding udp port blockers for future amazon updates. Manual updates only but next time I will be waiting 1-2 weeks until all issues made public.
