That's because the Kindle renderer--the program that was used to create the Kindlebook and MOBI--doesn't honor empty paragraphs. An empty paragraph is what you have when you hit "enter" instead of creating top- or bottom-margins in your CSS.

Also the Kindle Touch automatically put a double space between paragraphs, while the Android device indents the paragraphs. The double space between paragraphs (and other places) makes the ebook easier on the eyes.

I feel I should advise you that Amazon's distinct preference is not in accord with your feelings about what looks "best." Amazon wants first-line indent, NO space between paragraphs. I don't know what you used to create this MOBI file, but you really ought to restyle the paragraphs. Assuming that you used a specific paragraph style throughout, changing that should be of no moment.

Can someone take a look at the above mobi file on an ebook reader (Kindle or other kind) and give comments/suggestions on appearance (formatting)?

Why did you put two tables of Content at the end of the book? Did you use Calibre? (Or, more likely, the "online converter" is something using the Calibre API). Why is there a partial TOC at Location 3249? It's a bit weird. As your client (?) has reasonably interesting Chapter names, you may wish to consider putting the TOC at the front of the book, where it belongs. Yes, yes, before anyone jumps in here to give me crapola about the LookInside, at the very least, it should have a short TOC at the font--something like: Book Title, Start Reading, and a link to the full TOC.
Speaking of: your cover is not accessible from the GoTo menu. That will earn you a gig.

Also, is there a software that can be used on a PC to simulate a Kindle? In other words, the appearance will be exactly the same as a Kindle. The purpose here is not to read the book on a PC, but to know exactly how the book will appear on a Kindle.

I'm not sure how you didn't run into this, thus far, but you can/should use
Kindle Previewer, from Amazon, which will enable you to see how the book will look on at least 5 different devices (plus two, if you have an iPad or iPhone). Guys, is there a link to KP, in the Wiki? Alternatively, Jimdays, you will want to Google Kindle Previewer, use the link to get it from Amazon. Don't download something from anywhere else.

Another question: Is there an official protocol to insert captions when viewed on a Kindle? This protocol would not allow captions to get separated from the picture if the user chooses a large font. And what software would do this? (Though I could, I don't really want to put the captions IN the bottom of the picture - like with photo editor Irfanview.)
|
First, NO, there is no protocol for escaping captions. When they escape, they escape. Them's the breaks.

Lastly, this book has some misspellings and other mistakes. My purpose is not to correct these problems - that will be left to the author to do. In some way of thinking, I think the mistakes add to the overall effect of the book.

Well, I wouldn't bet on that. Firstly, Amazon has a brand-spanking-new protocol, in which books with errata of a certain kind (spelling amongst them) will earn CFQIs, Customer Facing Quality Indicators. What is that? It's a wee nastygram, on the book's SALES PAGE, that the buying public will/can see. The ones that are actively removed from sale will have this on the sales page:
http://goodereader.com/blog/uploads/...ng-message.jpg I haven't seen the "warning" message yet, for those books that have been notified about errors, but haven't fixed them yet. However, I think we can assume that they're NOT going to hide it.
And, I assume you already know that the author can't live-edit a MOBI. Not that this is the point of this subforum or thread, but, you should come up with a process surrounding a form, that the author can use, from which you will make the edits. I recommend that you pop this puppy through the KDP Bookshelf upload process, at the least, to the spell-checker. Download/email the results to the author, and get the edits made BEFORE you put this on sale.
Just my $.02.
