Not necessarily.

Dropbox has a safety net -- you have thirty days to undelete a file, or forever if you have a paid plan.
I've never actually used OwnCloud, because I've always been happy with Dropbox. Does OwnCloud allow you to save deleted/modified files in some sort of cache/Trash? Yes, it would consume more space, but that isn't the big concern...
