Ah, Flavia de Luce. Excellent series -- and NOT a kid's book.

I like the Genevieve Lenard series by Estelle Ryan. It's up to 8 books now -- I've read the first 3. The first in the series, The Gauguin Connection is a free Kindle book at Amazon US and perhaps at other Amazon sites.
