I have a vague feeling that this is caused by the plugboard. Somewhere in the book matching, the plugboard is used to generate or decode the title and author. This result of this is used fro the comparison. If you have a plugboard on the KoboTouch driver that added the series to the title but not on the KoboTouchExtended driver, there might be a mismatch that would explain this. And if the books are matched between the device and the library, then getting the reading status won't work do anything.
