In that case, since any jail-broken Kindle will serve his purposes, I would suggest he review the Kindles that can be jail-broken to determine which best suits him and then look for one at a good price for one in good working condition on eBay.

I have ordered three of them over the past few years that way and been pleased with them. There are plenty of people out there who have to have the latest and greatest of everything. Some of them are thoughtful enough to think to offer their older models they are replacing for sale on eBay and recovering some of their cost of moving on to the newer model by so doing.

He might need to wait a few weeks to find one at a good price, as some people seem to overprice their used units originally. I have seen some with an asking price higher than that of a new Kindle, truly absurd. Be patient unless you have money to burn.
