It looks like Kobo has closed the loophole in its price match policy.

I used the 50% discount code to reduce the cost of a book from £38 to £19 and then asked for a price match with Google Play where the book was £29. Kobo refused it and the email said:

"Unfortunately, a Price Match credit does not apply to your purchase due to the following reason(s).

- The book on the competitor's site was more expensive than it was on our website as a promo code was applied to your purchase."

I'm still happy because a) it was a book I really wanted (and is unlikely ever to be much cheaper) and b) I was able to use a £7 store credit gained by taking advantage of the price match before this apparent change.

So beware.
