The things have no moving parts and are really little more than an LCD screen with a rechargeable battery. LCD screens are know to last ten years and more and modern batteries lose capacity very slowly.
Given that the majority of consumers use them for Internet access and content playback there really is no need for new features. In that they are more like TVs than PCs. And TVs tend to stay in use for a looonnngggg time.
None of this means the tablet business is dead, just that replacement sales aren't going to be a big part of the business and, with the growing popularity of convertibles and Tablet PCs, new adopters of media-centric tablets are more likely to be looking for low cost devices.
And guess who bet their tablet business on the low end?
Anybody looking for bargains in premium android tablets is going to have a lot of choices in a month or so...
