Yes, its pretty big for a book. But it's a relative rarity and you could still store 40 of those in main memory.
Compared to video, it's nothing. 120Mb will hold maybe 10 minutes of SD video and 2-3 minutes of compressed 1080p HD. One good quality 1080p movie file could fill up the Fire 7 main memory. So Amazon added the SD slot.

The vast majority of text-based ebooks run under 1Mb and you could store anywhere between 4,000 and 10,000 on the Fire 7.

(We've been down this way before since the days if the Kindle 2, haven't we?)

Some folks need/want a lot of space for their ebooks--most people don't.
