I don't know. There is discussion in this thread that indicates that it might be possible, or it might not.

I am sure that in order to attempt to support SD cards on a Fire, I would need to buy a Fire. That isn't something I really want to do, but I will talk with my son & daughter-in-law (my partners) about it. And even with a Fire it isn't clear how much success I would have because of the need to maintain compatibility with the CC installed base.
