I spend more time with my Kindle than I do with my 'retina' iPad. It is my personal preference to read on the Kindle.
I have read study results proving no real difference in reading speed between a good LCD and E-Ink. But I see better contrast (easier to read text) on my Kindle. It is also lighter in my hand, has a battery I don't have to worry about, and would cost me less if lost/stolen/damaged when using it everywhere in the world.
