Tackling Mayne Reid
'Captain' Mayne Reid was a prolific author of adventure fiction in the nineteenth century. With 57 volumes available via Project Gutenberg (and 13 epubs available on this site), it's hard to know where to start. With an author like that I sometimes attempt to sort the titles into categories. My first attempt at Mayne Reid is given below. Mind, I've certainly not had time read all of these! (These are LONG books!) But based on the chapter titles and a cursory perusal I've come to a starting point:
1 - North American Adventures
1-1 The Boy Hunters
1-2 The Young Voyageurs
1-3 The Death Shot
1-4 The Fatal Cord and The Falcon Rover
2 - Native American Adventures
2-1 Osceola the Seminole
2-2 The White Squaw
2-3 The Wild Huntress
2-4 The Yellow Chief
3 - Tales of the American West
3-1 The Quadroon
3-2 The Headless Horseman
3-3 The Lone Ranche
3-4 The Desert Home
4 - Tales of the Sonoran Desert
4-1 Wood Rangers
4-2 The Lost Mountain
4-3 The White Chief
4-4 The Scalp Hunters
5 - Tales of Old Mexico
5-1 The War Trail
5-2 The Free Lances
5-3 The Tiger Hunter
5-4 The Bandolero
5-5 The Rifle Rangers
6 - South American Adventures
6-1 The Forest Exiles
6-2 Afloat in the Forest
6-3 Gaspar the Gaucho
6-4 The Land of Fire
7 - Ocean Voyages
7-1 Ran Away to Sea
7-2 The Boy Tar
7-3 The Ocean Waifs
7-4 The Boy Slaves

7-6 The Castaways
8 - Tales of South Africa

8-3 The Young Yagers
8-4 The Giraffe Hunters
9 - Far-Flung Adventures

I hope some of our resident booksmiths will take an interest in Mayne Reid and bring more of his works to MobileRead.
