PDF is a file format specifically created for fixed layout/printable documents, while EPUB is a format created for reflowable text and media. You CAN create a reflowable PDF, and you CAN create a fixed layout EPUB, but I think it's easier to do it the other way around.
Is there some specific reason you want to use EPUB? One of them could be that you are creating a document for use on a device that does not read PDF.

I'm fascinated with interactive ebooks and not so much with just reading ebooks. I'm testing epubs with javascript, mediaqueries, audio and video. Fonts is for later. So pdf won't fit the bill.
