As rubeus mentioned, Flightcrew is not a built-in feature of Sigil any more. It is only available as a plugin. Once installed you can launch it from the main menu (Plugins->Validate->FlightCrew). If you don't have it installed. download it from
https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/fligh...ases/tag/0.9.0 and install it (Make sure you have the "Use Bundled Python" checkbox checked in the "Plugins" Preferences dialog).
The next version of Sigil will have the option of assigning keyboard shortcuts to a handful of favorite plugins.

I do not understand the difference between the F7 and alt+F2 validation checks but they always tell me "No Problems Found" so I don't trust them.

For clarification purposes: there is only ONE check integral to Sigil and that is the 'Well-Formed Check EPUB' tool (F7). The only thing it checks is to see if the (x)html is well-formed--there is nothing particularly epub-specific about it. It's a quick and dirty check to make sure that there's no missing end tags, or improper nesting, or other things that could stop any of Sigil's automated features from being able to work properly.
ALT+F2 is not a validation check
at all. It's just the default keyboard shortcut that toggles the visibility of the Validation Results widget/pane.
