More than half of the books I read are self published. I do tend to be selective, and I manage to avoid the worst of them by reading blurbs and samples. (Honestly, just reading the blurb is usually enough to avoid the really bad ones. Someone who can't write, can't write.)
I can, and do, tolerate a few typos in any given work. I was reading paperback science fiction in the 60s and publishers like Ace, Lancer, etc., would always have a few typos for the reader to discover. But "a few" is a small number. If mistakes are routine (or if the mistakes are due to carelessness, ignorance, etc.) I abandon it.
I make an effort to write reviews, especially for Indies for whom it makes the biggest difference, but I usually don't post a very low review unless I really feel it's warranted -- it's the whole "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" approach. Unless I feel that I really need to warn others.
