Ah, looking at the u-boot image/mkimage code, I see that it does have an image type for i.mxboot (at least in the repo. version of the code).

Ignore the 2.6 in the name, that is also the 3.0 repo.

but most likely they are.
or not.

You might want to make (and keep current) local clones of those, in case the freescale repos disappear with the take-over by NXP.
