The Sansa Zip looks interesting, does that support bookmarking of mp3 files at all?
I don't know, but I will drag mine out and test it for you!
I usually use a Sansa Clip+, unfortunately they are no longer made. With it, it does remember where I stop when I turn it off. But, I only listen to one thing at a time. I'm not sure how the Sansa's handle more than one item. And fyi, I think the Zip is discontinued too, not sure though.
I did pick up a cheap no contract phone for Christmas. I'm using Smart AudioBook Player on it. I am pretty sure it does bookmarks.
I tried going full time to Linux, but unfortunately I need too many programs that I can only run under Windows. Will Mp3Tag run under Wine for you to be able to correctly tag your books?

P.S. I tried the Zip. I played one book for a bit, hit pause, went out of it back to my list of audio books. I started playing another, paused it, turned off the player. When I turned back on the player it took me right back into the second book. I backed out of it, chose the first one, and it asked me if I wanted to start from the beginning or resume from where I had paused. I chose resume, it took me right back to where I was. So I guess in a way it bookmarks.
