Because the PRS-700 has both a touch film and the light-wedge lighting, there's more plastic between the air and the eInk. Some people see that as dimming of the screen and others see it as blurring.
I have a PRS-505 and a Kindle. My hubby bought me the lighted cover for the Sony 505, and I'm enjoying it very much. I wish I could get the same thing for my Kindle.
