Thanks for the suggestion of doing dual for the .mobi output.
I was having this same issue, but going from just a regular html document and trying to output .mobi and was seeing bizarre spacing in between whenever quotations marks and a capital C appeared. Was driving me crazy!
And yes, outputting AZW3 wasn't a good option because I can't download/sync between multiple devices. I wasn't aware of this dual-format option so really good information to know. Definitely using this from now on.
