I'd agree just go for the restart/reboot of your device if you want to do anything. The factory reset should only really be something you need to do for fixing problems.
One of our Kindle Keyboards was reset to factory defaults to fix a problem, the other has been fine, and along with my Paperwhite has only been rebooted following a firmware update. My Sony 350 has required quite a few reboots following freezes, but like the aforementioned Kindle Keyboard, since getting a reset to factory settings it's been running absolutely fine.
