Sorry, I don't see the problem. You create a reading list using the plugin and then add books to it. When you are looking for book to read, you open the list and see which is next. When a new book comes out, you add it and work out where it goes in the list. When you read a book, you remove it from the list or otherwise mark it as read.
And you can have multiple lists. So, one for each series, or one for fiction and another for non-fiction or what ever the grouping you want to use.
And a book can be on more than one list. A book can be in "read soon" list, the "when I need a light read" list and the "don't let your mother know you read this sort of trash" list.
