I will say for side loading epubs without needing to convert them is easier on a Kobo.
Side loading mobi's is easier on a kindle.
Pdfs are a pain to read on any e-ink unless the pdf designer has taken the time to make sure it is very readable on an e-ink without adjustments. Note that is very time consuming and is not generally done.
