Until we ditched the landline, whe had an entire (Indian, by accent, AFAICT) family calling our number numerous times a week... for YEARS.
* Ring *
"Hello, .... speaking."
- "Hello. Am I speaking to Dr. ....?"
"No, sorry. His number starts with 41, not 42."
* Click *
... wait for it ...
* Ring *
"Hello, .... speaking."
- "Hello. Am I speaking to Dr. ....?"
"No. His number starts with 41."
* Click *
And at some point it became:
* Ring *
"Hello, .... speaking."
- "Hello. Am I speaking to..."
"No! 41! *CLANG* "
As this was in the time before landline phones could show the caller's number (in the Netherlands), we couldn't do anything about it. Now those people are probably all dead, as there is no one to tell them the correct number to reach the doctor.
I have always wondered how an entire family of people can be that awesomely stupid.
