But is the problem format EPUB??

What I see is Overlapped letters or next LINES.
Without an original, I can't tell.

In a HTML based document it might be a negative top Margin or a really small line-height

If it was a PDF original... All bets are off (see the PDF conversion sticky in Calibre Conversions). That is obviously a display font-face. It could be images of letters that get mixed in where they decode upon converting
