You're welcome for the backports.

calibre does not have a way to refresh the books -- you'll need to resend them (or mess with custom scripts to extract the covers on-device and blah, which is work you probably don't want to do yourself, unless you happen to know python and have time on your hands, and only saves you a bit of time anyway).

And match books is only to make metadata in the Device View match the calibre library. If you needed to use it, you'd know already.
As I said, the only thing Match books does is update the single file "metadata.calibre" on the device.
