George Washington Carver was an amazing man. The American deep South owes a perpetual debt of gratitude to him. Back when cotton was king, a critter called the boll weevil devastated the cotton crops over much, if not all, of the South. Carver, a botanist at the Tuskegee Institute, came up with a huge number of alternative uses to the peanut, which grew in the South and was unaffected by the boll weevil. Thanks to Carver, many farmers switched to growing peanuts and had markets for their product.
