The "Ultimate Rotation Control" app from the Google Play Store permits me to control the orientation of the screen. By selecting "Reverse Portrait" it flips the display upside down, so the dang button is at the top instead of the bottom. (You can also choose "Landscape" or "Reverse Landscape" if you'd rather have it on the side of the device as you read in landscape orientation.)
You can use that app to make a single global setting that affects everything, or you can set it to behave differently on an app-by-app basis.
The only side effects of moving the button to the top is that the on/off switch is now on the lower-right side instead of the upper-left side, and the charging socket moves to the top along with the button, but those changes don't cause any problems.
