Try landscape mode - it should zoom and not reflow, unless the latest firmware changed that. But the device doesn't really fit to width in landscape mode. Instead it fits to height - meaning it strips the blank top/bottom margins, then it splits the page into two and will zoom in so 1/2 the page "fits" the screen in landscape mode. This almost always result in left/right blank margins still being larger then you would like.
As a fix, you can use a free program called
PDFill PDF Tools. One of the free tools is "Rotate or Crop PDF Pages". The best way to use this easy utility is to strip as much of the top/bottom margins as possible, even if that means getting rid of the page number and book title in the header on every page. This will enlarge the PDF even more when viewing it on the Sony eBook Reader and will do so without zooming. So you might be able to read it in portrait mode without any zoom applied (since in that mode the zoom will auto do reflow which most of the time screws up the text formatting - still readable just not very pretty). But if you go landscape mode, you should be able to do a zoom without the reflow which will make the text even larger and keep the format of the PDF.
