If you're like me, if it comes with anything over 1/2 charge in it it's going to get used at least until I'm done reading that night and then going on a charger. Hasn't effected the life of any of my batteries that I've noticed. New battery tech is much more forgiving about how you need to use it to avoid problems. To get the meter calibrated you might want to let it run down pretty good with regular use before charging the first few times (preferably not to empty as that is "harder" on it -- harder in this case being pretty relative since you won't charge the battery on an e-reader anywhere near as often as a cell phone or something).
