This is standard. If you de-register a Kindle Fire the Amazon ebooks vanish from the device. If you de-register an e-ink Kindle the Amazon ebooks remain on device until removed. Thus if you take a backup to a PC or thumb drive you can even do a factory reset and then restore ebooks
