I actually have my own answer for this which i've posted here in case anyone else ever wondered.
The Audible app for Android will play sideload audible audio books for ALL accounts regardless of the account the user is signed into. I've tested this by transferring audio books from each of my four accounts via usb into the Audible app. They show up as Device audio books and they all play. It doesn't matter which account I'm signed into.
This doesn't work with my Fire unfortunately which makes that device quite redundant now.
