No.

Wrong question.
It is still often necessary -- mostly with BPH ebooks -- to strip DRM if you want to get those ebooks onto any device that doesn't support a specific DRM scheme.
That is because many books -- particularly BPH ebooks -- are still sold with DRM.
Inherent in "DRM" is that it needs to be stripped in order to make the book usable except under very specific circumstances.
- calibre doesn't support any DRM.
- Many Android/iOS ereader apps don't support any DRM.
- Kindle doesn't support Nook DRM, Kobo DRM, or ADE DRM.
- Kobo doesn't support Kindle DRM or Nook DRM.
- Nook doesn't support Kindle DRM or Kobo DRM (though Kobo books are also available in ADE DRM which the Nook supports).
- Sony doesn't support Kindle DRM, Nook DRM, or Kobo DRM (though Kobo books are also available in ADE DRM which the Sony supports).
- iBooks works with nothing, and nothing works with iBooks.
Moral of the story -- strip your DRM.
