We had a guest one time who was over watching the game with us. We hadn't even thought about the fact the sound wasn't on because we never have it on. He finally asked why the sound wasn't working. When we told him we never turned it on, his eyes got REALLY big and he sat there for a while looking like he might burst. I finally asked if it bothered him and he said, "It's driving me crazy with no sound!"

But it's just football. The announcers blather on about nothing and we already know the rules so there's not much of interest to hear! We did turn the sound on for him. But it made me laugh because we had no idea it was bugging him.
LOL! I think you are very unique in listening to SILENT football! I don't blame him for being perturbed and I think most people would laugh harder at keeping the sound off as opposed to having it on. It just wouldn't seem like a sports game without lots of background noise, even if the volume was kept fairly low. That would be like expecting Mr. Monk, with his OCD way out of control, to not go bezerk if you kept re-arranging his furniture and slanting the paintings on the wall. It would drive him nuts. I think silent sports would drive me nuts too!
