I use a laptop for internet browsing and anything involving typing for the reasons you state. I use a 7" tablet for reading at home and a Moto G with the same size screen as your Optimus when I'm out and about.
I find Bible navigation easier with Bible apps than ereader apps. I like Tecarta, but I also got a stack of Bibles for free when Amazon was promoting their coins and the resources are now quite pricey. If you have Libronix/Logos resources, the
Logos Bible app is very good. My favorite for free resources is
