It really annoys me, though. As you may know I'm a keen photographer, and earlier this year I bought a "semi-professional" Nikon DSLR, which is a fiendishly complex device, with literally
hundreds of different configuration options. It came with a manual about a quarter the size of the older Nikon I bought about three years ago, despite being a hugely more complex device. How people are supposed to learn to use these things without buying expensive third-party books (which is what I ended up doing) really baffles me.
