If you find you need two or three different settings, you can create themes with those settings, then changing them would just be a couple of clicks.
Setting it in em would not help you anyway, since increasing the font size in the viewer changes magnification in the HTML rendering engine, it does not affect the GUI widgets, which control the width of the text.
