There's a very big difference between f.lux on iOS and similar apps on android. f.lux accesses the hardware directly and essentially recalibrates the display's color output. Other apps use some sort of software based screen overlay / filter to change colors. The result is flux has virtually zero impact on performance and (more importantly for portable device) battery life. It can do this because it's designed to work on specific hardware (and requires jailbreak).
I use cf.lumen on my android tablet and it slightly but noticeably slows down screen draws and definitely eats up more battery. If Amazon has something like this built in, maybe they can do it with direct hardware access and make it work better than third party apps can.
