Now that you mention the Dragonlance books.... The starters of the Dragonlance-series, Weiss & Hickman produced a very funny series called 'The Death Gate Cycle'. There are 7 books and especially the dwarves (called kegs in this series) and the magician Zifnab (yes he is the alter ego of Fizban....) are hilarious.
