When I woke up this morning there was an old man and a strange wooden boat

in my lower pasture. when I asked him if I could help him he asked me if he had found Mt. Arafat.

this has been unbelievable! since the week before Thanksgiving we have had the wildest weather! starting out with numerous days at or around freezing, which is fine with me but the winds started. first power outage, which went for almost 4 days for me. since then there has been some kind of storm every 1 to 3 days with some amount of power out. for the last week it has been rain. and more rain and a bit more rain. and some rain on top of that. along with that has been phenomenal WIND!!!! the trees here have a really shallow root base anyway as it is normally wet here but after this summer's drought, those were all loosened up to some extent and those have fallen victim to the storms.

I'm terrified to take a shower knowing that certainly as soon as I am soaped up the power will go out. I'm not sure when I was completely dry the last time. between the wind blowing things around and the horses getting into things, I've just given up on picking stuff up for now that isn't animal threatening. yesterday morning when I woke up I thought that perhaps the rain had stopped as I wasn't hearing "raindrops" on the roof. when I woke up a little more I realised that it was in fact a deluge and it was raining VERY hard. as soon as that reality penetrated, my room lit up. we had an incredible thunder and lightning storm that lasted for close to an hour. in short, it's been nuts!
