Must be just me but I can't understand this first-world problem re: registering a Kobo.
I'm pretty privacy minded, but part of the reason for buying a Kobo was access to the book store. By design, that sort of requires an account.
If I wanted a reader free of anybody's control, I'd buy another make. But complaining about this seems to ignore the fact that Kobo are trying to create an infrastructure more tailored to the people who want to one-click use their devices a-la the Amazon infrastructure - which is obviously a successful model to follow considering Amazon's success.
