I always tell people, "I don't have time; that's why I'm working on it *here*."
I also don't mind people talking to me; it's why I'm knitting or crocheting instead of reading or doing something on my phone. Most of my waiting is done at my kids' activities, so I want to talk to and get to know the other parents waiting with me -- they might be the parents of new friends that my kids want to hang out with someday.
On topic, I'm not hiding anything by choosing an ebook. If I'm out in public with my book, I figure that it is possible that someone will glance over at my book and read what I'm reading, so I choose the books I read on public by the words that are on the inside, not the cover. LOL It would be the same whether on paper or electronic.
