Nuther old fart here.
I don't see the need for all the mostly cosmetic changes we get fed these days.

Maybe, it comes from wringing out every byte of database performance from 80286-10 (2M). Or running a remote system via PCAnywher on a 2400 baud modem.

Heck, it took me years to attach a Mouse to my DOS system. Why did I need it? Tab and arrows keys were my friend.
I once reported a Bug that I discovered while doing a beta install of Paradox 3.5 that would have never been found by mice users.
